Meditation Asan from Kutch using the Kharad weaving technique.
Kharad is a flat tapestry-like weave, and patterns are worked on the reverse side.
Kharad rugs were used during long journeys on trade routes across Gujarat, and bags made of this weave (called Khurjani) were used by merchants to carry goods.
These products have a rugged durability and a reputation for being long-lasting.
The word kharad itself means floor covering in the Sindhi language.
This meditation asan has stylised mor (peacock) and geometric patterns.
It is beautifully finished with tassels.
The warp thread is cotton and the weft is done in wool.
It is woven on a simple above-ground loom, put together using wood and ropes.
