More information: Togalu Gombeyatta is the traditional shadow puppetry of Karnataka.
This type of beautiful puppet is used in all night performances in small villages and towns, where scenes from the epics are enacted.
The puppets are handmade in an elaborate process, curing goatskin, drawing figurines by hand, cutting out the leather and embellishing the final puppet with colour.
They make fantastic wall decorations, and can be easily framed like paintings.
The puppet is a re-creation of old puppet documented in the book Leather Puppets of Karnataka authored by M S Nanjunda Rao.
