They did not have homes with safe storage spaces.
These types of silver necklaces were a way of storing wealth because they could be easily traded, and were recognised as currency.
Nowadays there are no real silver coins minted; and this way of carrying one’s wealth has disappeared.
Nomads still wear various types of coin necklaces today, but more as a decorative element.
