About Us The Magic Room
The Magic Room is a textiles, arts and crafts centre in Sion, Mumbai. It is the brainchild of Deepa Krishnan, entrepreneur, educator and social worker. Apart from serving as a store,
it also serves as an events venue for promoting the cultural and artistic traditions of India.
The Magic Room runs a community livelihood initiative, using traditional textiles of India. We produce various products such as skirts, blouses, kaftans, sling bags, bedspreads, table linen, cushions, home décor, conference and gifting products, wedding products, etc. The production is done by a community of men and women, who come from low income neighbourhoods and slums of Mumbai. The products are sold at our centre in Sion, as well as online.
The Magic Room also offers carefully curated handmade products, sourced from NGOs, producer companies, and independent artisans. Apart from women’s wear (sarees, salwar sets etc.), we also sell home décor, folk and tribal art of India (Warli, Gond, Mata Ni Pachedi), as well as apparel, accessories, and crafts.
We have established an export business, currently catering to B2B clients in Canada, USA, South Africa, Mexico and Australia. We also have a retail export business, mainly catering to the Indian diaspora in the USA.
